2 face drug charges after teen dies from drug overdose

A young man who just graduated from high school recently lost his life and two other people also suffered harm due to overdosing on drugs. A man and a woman have been arrested in connection with the three overdoses in West Virginia. These two individuals currently face multiple drug charges.

The two arrested individuals, both age 23, have been charged with distributing a controlled substance (three counts). Both individuals were being held at a regional jail on cash bonds of $300,000. They are both accused of providing a drug to the three victims at a motel room early in the morning on a recent Tuesday. Police said after the three purchasers used the drug, the recent high school graduate was found deceased just a few hours afterward at his residence.

The recent high school graduate who lost his life as a result of a drug overdose was 18 and had just graduated the previous week. Meanwhile, the other two people who reportedly overdosed on drugs were 19 years old and 16 years old. The 16-year-old's condition was deemed serious but not life threatening. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old's condition was considered fair as was being treated in a hospital intensive care unit.

If appropriate to the cases' circumstances, the criminal defense for each of the two defendants facing drug charges might explore the possibility of striking plea agreements with prosecutors. Plea deals might offer the advantage of resulting in lighter sentences for accused individuals compared to what would usually result from a guilty verdict at trial. Both individuals have the right to go to trial, where they will essentially force the prosecution to prove the formal allegations by presenting evidence that meets the criminal justice system's exacting requirements in West Virginia.
