A West Virginia man is facing criminal charges for his role in a recent alcohol-related accident. The crash involved multiple vehicles and occurred at the end of a high-speed chase with police. After being apprehended by law enforcement after the pursuit, he is being charged with fleeing from a law enforcement officer and drunk driving with serious bodily injury.
The high-speed chase began after the driver allegedly almost struck a police car with his sports utility vehicle. According to reports of the incident, he then fled in the vehicle and was pursued by West Virginia law enforcement. The chase abruptly ended when the driver crashed into two other vehicles, and at least one occupant suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The driver had a blood alcohol content of .181 percent at the time of the accident, which is more than twice the legal limit of .08 percent. Police also claim that the driver reached speeds of around 100 miles per hour leading up to the crash. At this time, the driver would be wise to work with his defense attorney regarding potential strategies with which he could confront these serious criminal charges.
A conviction of drunk driving, especially in combination with other charges, could bring penalties that will have a significant impact on various areas of life. It is wise to seek help from a defense attorney as soon as possible after an arrest in order to understand what options are available. In some cases, it may be possible to seek lesser charges or mitigate some of the potential consequences.
