When causing a car accident, many individuals become the subject of a subsequent investigation. There are countless ways in which a collision can occur, and distracted and drunk driving are believed to be a couple of the most prevalent. A West Virginia man is being accused of driving under the influence after a recent car accident involving a police cruiser.
Reportedly, the man was driving north near an interstate exit ramp when he suddenly rear-ended a West Virginia State Police cruiser that had come to a halt in traffic. The driver of the cruiser reported minor injuries in the accident, and has since returned to work. The man in the northbound car was arrested and is now facing DUI charges in relation to the event.
There was no indication whether field sobriety tests were performed after the collision, or evidence listed that would suggest the man was intoxicated at the time. With so many different factors that can lead to a similar accident, a person can only be convicted of similar charges if proof of DUI exists. An individual who is facing a similar situation may find it beneficial to have knowledge of the process when seeking to prepare a defense.
Charges of this nature can have a negative impact on a person's future. An accused individual has every right to present a vigorous defense against charges of drunk driving. Challenging charges of this nature alone can be difficult, prompting many individuals in West Virginia to speak with an experienced defense attorney for assistance in the process.
