Traffic stop leads to drug charges for 1 in West Virginia

Traffic stops are a common occurrence and can take place under a variety of circumstances. While many of these simply result in a ticket, or even a warning, others can lead to suspicion of additional crimes. A man in West Virginia was recently arrested and is currently facing drug charges after he was allegedly pulled over for failing to wear a set belt.

Authorities assert that the traffic stop was initiated after noticing that a nearby driver was not wearing his seat belt. Upon approaching the vehicle, they allegedly caught wind of a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside. They proceeded to search the vehicle and claim to have uncovered various amounts and types of illegal drugs, along with a loaded weapon, each of which were allegedly hidden in a backpack.

In addition to the alleged contents of the backpack, they also claim that he was in possession of a certain amount of cash and numerous bags of marijuana. He was taken into custody and is facing multiple charges, including two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. If convicted, he would face severe penalties that could have an impact on his life in various ways.

Those accused of similar crimes often seek to protect their future from being affected by defending against the charges. However, challenging drug charges can be a stressful and intimidating process, prompting many of the accused to seek the guidance of a defense attorney. An attorney can thoroughly examine the charges and evidence, along with the procedures used during the search, and advise a client in West Virginia on the best course of action to take moving forward.
