1 facing drug charges after allegedly consenting to a search

Many individuals have found themselves facing criminal allegations following a routine traffic stop. Without the necessary legal experience, a person may be unaware of his or her legal rights during a traffic stop, and may feel obligated to consent to an officer’s request to search the vehicle. A man is reportedly facing multiple drug charges after allegedly consenting to a search to a recent traffic stop in West Virginia.

According to reports, law enforcement agents initiated a traffic stop for unspecified reasons upon encountering a vehicle in a local parking lot. After speaking with the driver, they claim he gave them permission to perform a search of the vehicle. During this process, police allegedly uncovered the presence of as many as 41 grams of methamphetamine and 29 grams of heroin and cocaine, along with cash and a loaded firearm.

The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody soon thereafter and charged with possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine and heroin. Authorities have advised that the investigation is still underway, and that additional charges may follow. A conviction for similar charges is severe and could have a devastating impact on a person’s life in various ways.

Those who are facing drug charges may find it advisable to seek guidance as soon as possible. By retaining the services of an attorney, a person in West Virginia could obtain guidance on the best course of action with which to proceed. An attorney can work toward protecting a client’s legal rights and assist him or her in forming a strong defense for use during court proceedings.
